* The Partial Registration (Friday and Saturday only) option will be of particular interest to those who only want to attend the Northern Health Research Conference (NHRC). 

If you have registered for the Learner Rate (undergraduate student, medical student, resident, graduate student), you may be asked for student ID at the Registration desk upon arrival.

The full ICEMEN, NHRC, Indigenous Research Gathering Conference includes access to the ICEMEN opening ceremony and dinner; access to all ICEMEN and NHRC sessions, and most sessions of the Indigenous Research Gathering; community visits; and, all lunches and refreshment breaks. Please note: Breakfast is included in all official conference hotels. Participants must eat breakfast at the hotel in which they are staying.

Friday and Saturday morning only includes access to all NHRC and ICEMEN sessions on Friday and Saturday morning; some of the Indigenous Research Gathering; and, lunch and refreshment breaks Friday and Saturday. Please note: Breakfast is included in all official conference hotels. Participants must eat breakfast at the hotel in which they are staying.

Optional Items

Tickets for the Opening Ceremonies, Welcome Dinner and Keynote Speaker (Dr. Rachel Ellaway) are included in the Full Conference packages, however additional tickets must be purchased for companions.

Tickets for the 10th Anniversary Dinner are not included in any of the ICEMEN conference packages. Tickets must be purchased by all participants who wish to attend.

10th Anniversary Dinner Description
The Northern Ontario School of Medicine is wrapping up its year of 10th Anniversary celebrations at ICEMEN with a very special reception and dinner on Thursday, June 23, 2016.

Please join us at the historic Machine Shop in downtown Sault Ste. Marie for an entertaining evening Around the Campfire, which will include a rich cultural experience with our Indigenous and Francophone partners. Join us Around the Campfire and experience the music, food, and stories of Northern Ontario as part of the ICEMEN conference. Tickets are limited. Dress is campfire attire – or whatever is in your suitcase! This special evening will begin with Indigenous Drummers and a welcome by the Chief of the traditional territory Batchewana First Nation, followed by a reception with cash bar at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for the 10th Anniversary Dinner are NOT included in any of the Conference packages. Tickets must be purchased by all participants who wish to attend.

Conference on the Move

Discover the beauty of Northern Ontario with Conference on the Move! This bus excursion will showcase several NOSM community partners on a trip that will start in Toronto, stop in Manitoulin Island, and conclude in Sault Ste. Marie prior to the ICEMEN opening ceremonies. Among other activities, delegates will experience Canadian wilderness medicine, local cuisine, and Indigenous culture. The Conference on the Move (starting in Toronto, Canada on June 20 and ending in Sault Ste. Marie in time for registration and the conference opening) includes:

  • Two nights hotel accommodation (June 20 and June 21);
  • Breakfast daily;
  • Two lunches (June 21 and June 22);
  • Two dinners (June 20 and June 21), including entertainment both evenings;
  • Transportation by luxury highway coach (Toronto – Sault Ste Marie);
  • Ferry crossing from Tobermory to Manitoulin Island;
  • Sunrise Ceremony;
  • WildER Med Experience;
  • Activities at the Great Spirit Circle Trail; and,
  • All taxes and gratuities. All fees are listed in Canadian dollars (CAD).

Not Included:

  • Lunch en route June 20; and,
  • Items of a personal nature.

PLEASE NOTE

Conference on the Move participants MUST be ready to depart Toronto the morning of June 20, 2016 at approximately 09:30. (The exact pick-up time will be communicated to participants closer to the event date.)

When arranging your flights please take this into consideration as you will likely need to arrive in Toronto on Sunday, June 19, 2016.

The coach will be picking up at the Holiday Inn, Toronto International Airport (970 Dixon Road, Toronto, Ontario, M9W 1J9).  They have an airport shuttle from Pearson International. You are not obligated to stay at this hotel, but please take this into consideration when confirming your travel arrangements.

If you participate in Conference on the Move, you do not need to book transportation from Toronto to Sault Ste. Marie. You will however, need to book your return transportation from Sault Ste. Marie back to Toronto.

Hotel Information

The Delta Sault Ste. Marie Waterfront Hotel and Conference Centre is the ICEMEN 2016 conference venue. NOSM has booked preferred room rates at this hotel during the conference period.

NOSM also has preferred rates at two overflow hotels, the Quality Inn & Suites Bay Front and the Holiday Inn Express Sault Ste. Marie. Both the Quality Inn and Holiday Inn are located walking distance from the conference venue (eight minute and five minute walk, respectively).

Preferred NOSM rates are available for the period of June 19 – 26, 2016 and should be booked through our conference registration site. Please do not call the hotel directly to book.

The conference hotels require all room reservations to be guaranteed by a valid credit card. Your credit card is not charged at the time of reservation, and is used as a guarantee that a room will be held in advance of your arrival. Your credit card will be charged only if pre-payment is required for a specific rate, or in the event that you do not cancel your reservation within the stated cancellation time period and do not check in. Your credit card information is secure.
